Symposium on "Transportation Safety: From Research to Practice."

April 3, 2013

Rosen Plaza Hotel, Orlando, Florida

The Transportation Research Center at the University of Florida will host a day-long symposium titled “Transportation Safety: From Research to Practice” on April 3, 2013 in Orlando, Florida. This event will feature presentations based on a variety of projects related to transportation safety undertaken by researchers affiliated with the University of Florida. The topics covered will  include data, predictive methods, driving simulation, GIS-based analyses, computational methods, older driver needs, safe routes to school, evacuation modeling, and outreach to small agencies. The presentations will be made by researchers with expertise in transportation engineering, computational/optimization techniques, urban and regional planning, GIS, and occupational therapy.  The symposium is organized into four main sessions. Each session will feature three – four presentations followed by a discussion period. As such the event is designed to allow for substantial involvement of the audience.

The event will feature Mr. Douglas Harwood, from MRIGlobal, as the luncheon speaker. Mr. Harwood is an internationally-recognized expert in the field of transportation safety and has contributed extensively to the subject and in particular to the Highway Safety Manual. His speech titled “New Tools for Highway Safety Analysis” will cover among other things, the newly developed “usRAP Tools” software which can recommend a cost-effective program of highway infrastructure improvements without being onerous in terms of data needs.

The event will be of interest to consultants, staff of state- and local- agencies, policy makers, students, and researchers interested in the various aspects of transportation safety. Six PDH credits will be offered.

This symposium follows in a series of annual events organized by the Transportation Research Center at the University of Florida on various themes. The Safety conference will immediately precede the UTC regional conference (to be held on April 4 and 5).

For more information, contact: Dr. Siva Srinivasan at 6 PDHs will be earned for participation in this event.

A $25 cancellation fee will be applied for no-shows and cancellations within 3 days of the event.
